February 14, 2023 1:02 PM from Skip to everyone: yeah. really February 14, 2023 1:02 PM from Wendy Anderson to everyone: Andrew, from my boss Amie, who sent me info from USDA: Rooting Habit- Post oak seedlings have especially thick taproots, usually exceeding the shoot diameter; but overall root development is less than that of northern red (Quercus rubra), scarlet, white, and blackjack oak (12). Although post oak seedlings do become established on sites having a tight clay subsoil, their growth is slow and most roots develop above the underlying clay (3). Post oak seedlings were found to be the most drought resistant of four Missouri oaks, primarily because of the greater drought tolerance of their leaf and root cells (13). In Alabama, post oak was the least tolerant of flooding of all species tested (6). February 14, 2023 1:02 PM from Bob Romero to all panelists: An excellent and very comprehensive and informative presentation. Hopefully we will have access to the slides. February 14, 2023 1:51 PM from Gene Fisseler to everyone: If it weren’t for US (humans) choosing to live in Texas, all this disturbance wouldn’t have taken place. So I’ve learned to take the good with bad. And while we can’t reverse all the damage WE’VE contributed to, I do what I can to minimize future disturbance and restore and preserve what I can. Therefore, the TXMNs. February 14, 2023 1:52 PM from Renee to everyone: Urban sprawl is so destructive. February 14, 2023 2:17 PM from Jill to everyone: Wow so pretty! February 14, 2023 2:17 PM from Skip to everyone: in response to the question of salt lake formation...salt is significatnly more dense than silt... it is expected that erosion would reflect the removal of silt along with lighter soils, supplements, and residual water while salt would be more likley sink and remain as deposits on the base accumulating enough water over time to become highly saline reservoirs. Hmmm... experts are solicited to see if this conforms to their understanding. February 14, 2023 2:17 PM from Roz to everyone: I believe we have a bald cypress swamp area that is not recorded in the TEAM website. February 14, 2023 2:20 PM from Skip to everyone: the base conforming land would also be more likely to remain as alkaline whereas acidic soil is lighter and more proned to b e carries with sufficient water flow... clay is an issue in acid zones also making the top soil layers thinner, in our area 8-12 inches below top grade.
